Card Make Application

Hello everyone
I was working on a card generator program and finally it is finished
The programing aspect was fun and I learned so much about graphic programming but... god let me forget all those pain in the *** (A.K.A. photoshop work!) hehe. just imagine separating more than 80 different symbols for card attributes!!!
here is the features for the program :
1- More than 1400 lines of code !!
2- You can choose from different available background images (or simply put your background in the backgrounds folder)
3- you can choose from different available borders (or simply put your border in the borders folder)
4- you can choose from different available effect layouts (or simply put your effect box in the effects folder just remember for the jutsu effect box write "jutsu" in the file name)
5- you can choose from different available swords for ninja cards (or simply put your swords in the symbols folder and write "sword" in the name)
6- you can choose from different available templates for card type symbols (or simply put your template in the templates folder)
7- program will list all the character layouts you put in the characters folder
8- you can choose if you want the character layer to be on top of borders or not
9- you can choose if you want the character layer on top of card element symbols or not
10- you can choose if you want the card type symbol on top of character layer or not (of you choose the character layer to be on top of card element symbols !)
11- you can add all available card attributes just by clicking the names from the list
12- you can add up to 4 chakra cost types to each jutsu card
13- can easily add your flavor text, effect text, card name, even the copyright text and see the result at the same time

and !!!!!

The picture at the end of topic is the program at starting phase, the inteface is a little bit changed and some more options added to final program.

Naruto CCG Card Maker

Well, I gave it a try...



The result is a little rough, and the drop down menus are certainly easy to navigate, but a little restricting of freedom, so I don't foresee it replacing photoshop for the high level makers or anything like that, but I think that this program is a wonderful gesture. It might be a huge help for beginning card makers, or makers that want to create a card in as little time as possible. I deeply appreciate the time and devotion you have commited towards making the world of card creating a little friendlier. There is a lot of great work in here, and I can tell you must've worked very hard on it. Like I mentioned, there are some details lacking, and I feel like there could be some potential for real greatness if you continue to expand on it. I'm just wondering, do you have any plans to do so at this time? Are you working on it any further?

well, why not, i don't like to not finish what i started, so if you can help me and tell me what's exactly needed i'll do the job, and I really appreciate if you can send me the clean backgrounds of cards specially the new ones (those of naruto and sasuke that has knife in support and combat attribute places)

no one said that it can be replaced by photoshop! but at least it can make the job faster\

well, i never played the game (can you imagine it?) because in my country there is no way to by the cards and no one knows about the game so, in other words, i don't know what's lacking and hope that you and others can help. and as i said before, i don't like to not finish what i started so, yah I'm still in, and i want to make the program as perfect as it can be. currently, i'm working to add the ability to make horizontal cards too. it may take 3-4 days due to my busy job (I'm a medical doctor ! surprise ) but i hop that it'll be complete one week from now, so if you have any thing to help to be added or make perfect just say it so i add it for next update

I don't know if it helps at all, but I made a version of the same card I posted in Photoshop, just so that it might help you compare.

You can probably see from those pictures that there are a lot of small template problems around. If you'd like to have the elemental templates, along with a lot of other goodies, they've been collected in this thread.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about programming, so I can't really offer any specific advice. The font is off, and looks too crisp; it would look a lot better if it were softer. I think that this is the biggest thing that makes it look low quality. You can see on the card I posted using your program, the golden line right below the flavor text? That should be where the top of the effect box should be. Having the "Ninja" icon in the upper left be interchangeable is a good idea, but they're too big. If you can, it would be better to make it smaller like in the photoshop card I posted.

The characteristics are probably the most restricting thing I found. People are constantly wanting to add new characteristics that aren't normally in the game, which is impossible with only a set number of options. Additionally, with so few slots, a lot of common combinations of characteristics becomes impossible. I think this would be better if you could enter it yourself.

Characteristic 1: [type it in] Characteristic 2: [type it in] ....etc...

Those are just some random things, I saw, I hope it gives you some direction. Like I said, I have no idea what options are available to you, so... the best I can say is look at the card I posted, and real cards, and try to get it to look as close as possible.

2- for the ninja card symbole, it's possible and i'll do it as fast as i get your card image
3- the fonts are those that recommended in bandaicg forums, i'm not sure what you mean by off, the roghness around the fonts are due to anti aliasing, i'm not sure if it can be fixed in programming but i'll look around for it
4- about the characteristics, well, the first thing i thought was the same idea as yours , then i looked at different pictures and found that you can categourise them as i did, you are right about the new comming ones but well, maybe i can find a way for that, maybe a text file that has each categoury (you never use foudal lord wife in the same time as growth or platoon for example). so , in other words, the combinations is possible and properly managable if you look for each categoury and think about proper combination for different cards. but hey, i'll find a way to let people add new ones or edit each categoury as they see fits. that should fix the problem ha? (like X different text files that has each characteristic in a single line !)
so, i'm waiting for your photo. please share it in the address i gave you (what about the element symbols? are they in proper size?).

I think the option to add any characteristic sounds great. And you right, it's the antialiasing that's the problem with the fonts. If there was a way to smooth it out, I think it would look a lot better. Again though, I don't know anything about what you're doing, so I'm not sure if this is an option...

hi, here is the new version, just uninstall the previous version manually and re install this one.
I hope that it solved so many of the problems, and check the horizontal ability too. by the way if you put any picture in the background or border folders they will be listed in the drop down menues.
for now, I didn't add the ability to use text file approach for abilities but added the free type top, just choose it in the radio button and you can type your characteristics manually.
one more update :added the ability to add "or" in jutsu chakra cost and chakra types, just check them all and check the font and effect box place again and tell what you think, should i add the text approch for characteristics too?

the new version is ready and i uploaded it to my own web hosting so, there is no more restriction from rapidshare
there are many things changed in this version , from effect box graphics to many replacements in the components of card hope you enjoy it.

how should i know if you like the program or not?
by the way,
open your installation folder, there are different folders like background, border, effect etc. , you can put your images that you want to use in those places then start the program, it will be loaded in the list
and one thing more, there are some text files, if you want to add any new features, open the proper one and add it there (same goes if you find any typing error)
and give me some feedback so i know how should i tweak the program to make it better

program is cool, but i prefer to make cards manually.
it could be cool if people want to make lot of cards in a short time for a fan play. i appreciate your time and effort that you have spent on this program. regards.

it's a shame you don't make cards and not participate at those 2 tourneys, mendo's/n4e's ongoing, and mendo's lazy one.
